COVID-19 EFFORTS
We faced an unprecedented emergency, unlike anything this country has experienced. Beyond the health impacts of the COVID-19 coronavirus, our economy had ground to a halt — schools and businesses were closed, travel was restricted, and restaurants faced an uncertain future. Traditional safety nets like school feeding programs, childcare services, and senior centers were struggling to stay open.
More than 9,600,000 of the nation’s more than 12 million restaurant industry workers were unemployed due to mass closures. There were more than 500,000 hospitality industry workers in the State of Georgia; and more than ⅔ of this population lives in the Metro Atlanta region.
Together we gave them more than hope. We got through this together.
